I’ve been struggeling with this underlying cold lately, you know the ones where you’re not quite sick, but you’re feeling slightly under the weather? Well, I think I found something that might help me recover from just that. These juice shots are filled with two amazing ingredients that will kick my nasties right out; beetroot and ginger.
Beetroots are called a ‘prebiotic food’ which means that it’s good for our gut health and optimal gut function- it’s also a good source for dietary fibre as well as a high content of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. One of them being folate, which also reduces fatigue and makes you feel more energized.
Ginger is a wonderful root which we all could and should eat more of- at least once a day. It has a strong and warming flavor and is great in soups, salads, salsas and in warm water. Once, I tasted a pinapple salsa with freshly grated ginger with a touch of chili and it was the best thing I’ve ever tasted. Ginger is a great way to add flavor to a meal. It is also a great way to beat a cold. Whenever I feel a cold coming on I always make a long brewed ginger tea as strong as the ginger itself. If my throat is really sore, I tend to chew on a piece of fresh ginger which will numb my throat slightly and the soarness fades.
I mean, who doesn’t feel awesome after drinking a cold pressed juice?
Rejuvenating Beet & Ginger Shot
Yield 2 servings
1 thumb size ginger or more
1 lemon, skin removed
1 granny smith apple
- For the ginger shot, add all of the ingredients exept beetroot in a juicer.
- For the beetroot juice simply add one beetroot in the juicer and watch the magic happen!
- For a more refreshing juice add it in a blender with ice cubes and serve straight away.
